Well, first of all, I want to say happy (all be it late) birthday to OtherFamily! You heard me right (just scroll to the bottom of the page if you need to see for yourself), but OtherFamily turned five years old on the 22nd. It has been half a decade now, and we are still rolling along - though we may be limping a bit.
With that said, I would also like to admit that Hess and I missed our self imposed deadline of releasing a new version of this site for you on the 5th birthday of the site, but we have made some big strides in the direction of getting this all done. So, expect to see some very interesting changes around here soon that will bring us out of the digital stone age and blast us into the modern era (and maybe even beyond - you decide when we release).
As always, I want to say thanks to all of the people who help breath life into this site on a day to day basis, and to all the others who just pop in from time to time. If it was not for all of you, OtherFamily would not exist today - and I am personally proud to have been a part of this amazing experience over all these years.
So, five years in the hole, and here is to five more interesting years yet to come!

What is Happening

So, I just wanted to drop a quick little line to give people a heads up on some things going on around at OF on a slightly more official level. I will start with some general news first, and then move on to some site news.
In the real world, it is summer time once again and that means just one thing for those around here - The Other Family Reunion! For those who have access, details are posted in the Family Forums, and for those who do not but have been invited - you will need to rely on the one who invited you to ensure you get the needed information. In the past, invitation to these events have been used as an almost initiation of sorts for the core of OF, so we will see if 2010 will bring any new members to our family!
As a lead in to the site news, let me cover something that falls in both the real and digital worlds. Hess has been swamped to say the least as of late, and I myself have been doing more work on finding employment than I have working on the updates for OF. While these scheduling issues have certainly slowed things down a little bit, it has not brought us to a crashing halt.
Which brings me to the digital news. Hess and I had a conversation today - well, yesterday at this point - and there are some interesting things that are in motion regarding the updates for the site. These development, while not a guarantee, may be able to keep Hess and I on track for our launch plans for this update. Beyond that, it could also mean some very big changes for the way things look and work around here. Currently, we are convinced that these will be improvements - thus lending to the idea that they will be for the better.
Either way, things are shaping up to get quite a bit better around here, I just hope we can keep the time frame in check so we can provide all of you - our dedicated users and close and dear friends - with a better place to come and spend your time. I look forward to the future with you all, and I see it filled with great things on the horizon!

More Forum Changes

Going with the recent changes that have taken place on the public forums here at OtherFamily, I am pleased to say I have put the finishing touches on the changes to the private forums as well now. With that said, if you can now suddenly not access private forums on OtherFamily that you used to be able to access, please feel free to contact myself or Hess with any questions or concerns.
Obviously, these new changes will no doubt require at least a little refinement before everything is said and done, but I hope this new format will be more enjoyable and easier to understand for all of our users. In light of all that, my focus can now be primarily shifted to the work that needs to take place in the OtherFamily Gallery. From that point, we will maintain the new format until the final conversion is in place, at which time things will be drastically different around here - but I personally suspect that these changes will be for the better.
Again, thank you for your continued support, without our users (and thus our friends as well), this site would not even be possible!

Late Night Working

Well, as some of you may have seen already (and the rest will certainly be seeing once they hop into the forums), I had some issues being able to sleep last night, and as such I decided to push forward with getting the Public Forums cleaned up and kicked over to what will in essence be the new V3 format we have talked so long about.
Please do keep in mind, though, that this has only been a rough cleaning so far, and the staff here will be working over the next few weeks to finishing things off with the public forums and getting them cleaned up and in line. In this process, we could certainly use your help. If you notice a topic out of place from where it should be, or in violation of the particular forums rules that the topic is in, please report it to the site staff so we can address the issue. It would be helpful if in these reports you could provide the link from the address bar to the topic in question that you are reporting (will speed up tracking the information down).
There is a topic on the forums further discussing all of this, and I look forward to getting some comments and suggestions from the community in regards to the changes they see around here. Other than that, my plan is to next clean up the private forums around here, and then to get the gallery in compliance with this new system as well. At that point, we will work to finish off the actual implementations of V3 (though it may still take some time, even from that point to launch).

Continued Changes

It has been a minute, but I wanted to toss out a few words to everyone real quick.
I am fairly confident that most users of this site have probably noticed a few changes happening around here from time to time - much as I suggested before that they would be. Well, the changes are continuing still, though in some cases they have been fairly minor and possibly overlooked.
With that said, there are still a number of things that need to be taken care of before we get the V3 system in place here at OF. So far it is shaping up to be a very interesting and exciting project for the OF digital presence.
I would also like to take this time to once again thank all of our dedicated users (even though it is a small number) for having stuck with us through all of these long years. It has been an interesting road so far, and I think the future holds more of the same.

OtherFamily X-Mas 2009: Conclusion

Well, with the passing of the year 2009 has come the passing of another of the OtherFamily traditions - The Annual OtherFamily X-Mas Party! This was a great year, even though the cold weather was a little less than pleasing at times. The OtherFamily staff would like to take this time to thank everyone who made this tradition possible.
So, what now for the future? Well, there is the matter of getting the planning phases of the OtherFamily Reunion into the works, and there are still some more things to get finished with the V3 launch of the site.
In closing, 2009 has been a year of little in the lines of news around here, but 2010 is shaping up to give us some great new things to look forward to.

Something Going On Here

So, over the next few weeks or months you may notice some things slowly changing around here as I go through and get things into line for the conversion over to the new OtherFamily V3 system. Please, do not expect this to be any kind of fast paced project (as most things that happen around here are not), but I do promise that as time moves on you will start to notice various things happening around here (in fact they have already started).
The first of my goals during this process will be to get the Forums back into order. Things have been slacking around here for sometime, and it is time to correct those problems. This will involve a number of things, as well as a possible full restructure of the Forums themselves.
Once I finish things up with the Forums, I will be applying the same treatment to the Gallery as well. This will include removing unapproved content and adjusting permission levels on various content that is currently there.
Upon completing these tasks, it will be in the hands of the Moderation Team to stay on top of things and keep them in check while Hess and myself finish off things for the initial V3 conversion process. Yes, things are now in motion, so keep your eyes peeled for the coming changes!

The Family currently on Google Wave consists of just a small chunk of the Site Staff and a few of our users (from what I know, consisting of just the OtherFamily Core at this time). Just wanted to drop a little notice here to all of our users, we have started some work around here on a little spring cleaning of sorts. Part of this process has been to go through our user base and check in on how long it has been since different users have accessed their accounts here at OF. Due to the extensive times of inactivity seen with some accounts, the decision was made to clear our database of these unused accounts. As a part of this, the following accounts have been removed from the OF systems (each listed with the last time the user accessed their account):

That is right, me and my girl are gonna be leaving Ohio and heading out Wisconsin way! So, tonight, we are holding down a big event at our old place in the Twin Creeks complex. We encourage anyone who is in the area that would like to attend to stop on by and wish us off the best way possible!

Current Developments

First and foremost, detailed planning for the 2009 OtherFamily Reunion has already started, so expect to see some news regarding that in the very near future here!
Secondly, I would like to point out the update to the Affiliates section here, and welcome aboard our friends from The Valentine Empire to our little family here!
Also, as per the usual, Hess and I are pretty active right now (in comparison to our normal efforts) with getting some things situated here on the back end of things, and have our eyes firmly set on the future with a goal and plan in line. This means some big things for us here at OtherFamily, but I do not want to get into too many details with this right now because it will still be some time off.
As such, that means that this version of the site will be sticking around for even longer I am afraid to say, but it is functional so enjoy it as best you can with no flair!

Regarding Recent Downtime

As you may or may not have noticed over this past weekend, OtherFamily experienced some extended downtime, and there was a Page Suspended message that was appearing.
To explain, it seems that there were some issues regarding our Downloads section - specifically the hosting of the movies Zeitgeist and Zeitgeist: Addendum. It would seem that the issues related to copyrighted materials being hosted here.
As of this time, we have removed the content from the Downloads section of OtherFamily per the request of out hosting provider. We will be further looking into this matter, and we will keep you all up to date in regards to what we find out.

Gallery Updated, Still Need Help!

Well folks, I just finished updating the OtherFamily Events Album in the Photo Gallery. First off, I would like to say thanks to those of you who have already provided some lacking Event pictures and filled out the Album a little more.
But, we still need a little help. At the moment, it seems we still have no pictures of the 2007 X-Mas or Reunion. These seem to be the only ones missing at the moment, so if anyone happens to have pictures of either of these OtherFamily Events, it would be greatly appreciated if you could get them up!

Welcome 2009!

Well, the New Year is officially upon us now, and with that we have a few things around here to look forward to!
First of all, on the Forums the 2009 Posts in 2009 topic has already made an appearance (as has been the tradition around here the past few years or so now) and as usual Hess has developed a post tracker for it. Go on and check it out and join in on the fun!
Of course, with the New Year, we will be having the next annual OtherFamily Reunion this coming summer! Hess and I have already started to discuss plans for this coming Reunion, and so far it is shaping up to be one of the best ones we have held yet!
Then, of course, this winter will bring the 4th (possibly 5th, depending on if you wanted to debate the fact) Annual OtherFamily X-Mas Party! This has become quite the tradition here with the OtherFamily, and I would imagine that this year it will be no less spectacular!
As if all of that just was not enough, Hess and I (as mentioned before) have plans in the works to continue on with the new updates around here! The new Downloads section is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg for what we have in store for around here, and hopefully if plans go the way we want them (though they almost never do with any of us in this Family) 2009 should shed light to a number of these ideas.

Hess and I have been kicking around a number of things on the back end around here, as well as taking steps towards getting a graphical designer onto the development team around here!
Other than that, we have a whole lot of interesting things in store for this new year, assuming that we can keep ourselves on task and moving with them. I will resist going into too much detail on all of this, as I want it to be a surprise to some degree (I know some people have at least a vague idea of what I am talking about though) and I do not want to end up with my foot in my mouth by the end of this next year should we not stay on task!

X-Mas 2008 Pictures and Past Events Assistance

Well, I managed to finish it off before the new year - yay for me! Yes, that is right boys and girls, the pictures I secured with that cruddy digital camera (for those who saw it on the trip or elsewise) are now all up in the Gallery. Check in the OtherFamily Events Album, etc, etc until you come to this years album and enjoy the current pictures we have up (hopefully there will be some more coming from other folks who attended soon).
I would also like to take this time to reach out to our Family for a little bit of assistance for the Gallery (specifically the Events pictures). If anyone has any pictures of any of the Events that we have had that are not posted, could you please do us the honor of getting them up! I was noticing we have no pictures posted from -ANY- of our Reunions that we have had!!

OtherFamily X-Mas 2008: Final

Well, another year has come and gone, and the OtherFamily X-Mas went down with out too many complications (though the bitter cold and winds were a little undesirable). A huge thanks to everyone who attended this year, and to all those who had a hand in making sure this event went down!
As with the normal tradition of things, we had a wonderful Christmas dinner, the traditional X-Mas Poker Tournament (a good game again to everyone who attempted to best Hess so as to acquire the gift he had purchased for the winner (a very cool solar light for a walkway) - this year he got himself something nice, there was the gift exchange as usual for those who had brought gifts to share (though this is mostly for the kiddies), and of course the breakfast the following morning.
This year I managed to get a fair number of pictures that I should have up within the next couple of days here (will start on getting them up tonight), as well as a couple of video clips that I will also try and get up into the downloads section as soon as I can.
I look forward to celebrating with everyone who is able to attend next year - but for now, Hess and I will start working on plans for the OtherFamily Reunion 2009 so that we can get dates posted for people to start making their plans to attend.

So, today Sam and I begin the journey from Ohio to Wisconsin to attend the OtherFamily X-Mas Party 2008! We will be braving terrible winter weather through the cold bleakness of night, but we shall be there. Yes, that is right, new site content for those who would like to acquire access to it! You can now download Zeitgeist (Remastered Edition) and Zeitgeist: Addendum right here at OtherFamily in an AVI format that should be nice and easy for any PC and some other systems to play, or, if you prefer, we have also provided links to the official torrents of these files as well! In the future, other content will be made available through this area as well, so check back from time to time and see what is going on (we may also add in a function to notify you of updates to this section in the future version of the site coming soon)!
So it is known right now, OtherFamily does not condone the act of copyright infringement, nor do we believe that our users should engage in the act of media privacy. OtherFamily X-Mas 2008: Part 2

Well, folks, the votes are in and the polls are closed (much like the U.S. elections, eh...yea, lame joke...sue me), and the date has been scheduled and set into stone!
So, the actual date of the OtherFamily X-Mas 2008 will be December 19 - 21. Perhaps I should clarify those dates a little more - December 19 will more than likely be a setup day for Hess (and anyone else he recruits), which may include myself as well.
The party itself will be on December 20 (a Saturday as usual). As per the normal routine, it will be an overnight deal for those that would like to stay (you certainly do not have to if you do not want to).
Finally, December 21 will be cleanup and departure for those still in attendance.
For those who have attended in the past, I am pretty certain you have a good idea of how this all goes down. There will certainly be a main dinner meal prepared by Hess and some of the others in attendance, gift exchanges (for any who brought gifts to exchange...budgets are tight for everyone though so this is not a required affair - do it only if you want). Obviously there are plenty of social activities, and normally a breakfast deal the morning after.
Well, with all that said, start making sure you have the time off so you can try and be there, and as always we hope to have as many in attendance as we possibly can!

Been a Little While

So, it has been a little while since anyone has dropped any kind of news post around here, but leave it to me of all people to break the silence.
Anyways, to start off here we have had yet another successful OtherFamily Reunion (I apologize for not getting a news post up on this event, I will try to stay more on top of things in the future). I was unable to attend this year myself, but I hear it was quite the interesting time as always - even more so considering the flooding going on out in Wisconsin at the time! Thanks to everyone who made this annual tradition possible to continue on!
Now, onto some content of the digital sort (and personally my favortie kind considering it means changes on the horizon around here). I have taken up a new project of getting this site revised so that it does not look like it belongs on Geocities free web service. For far to long have we left this place in the dark ages of the net, and so I am working on bringing us up to the times.
Recently I have run into some problems regarding this, but I am trying to enlist the design skills of Hess to correct the error of my recent ways. Needless to say, I think that most of you will enjoy your time here quite a bit more then you currently do.
From there will begin the task of making a new forum and image gallery that will be more compliant with the new structure of the site as a whole (which will include the need to restructure the user database), and then on to some more new content for the site to add to the overall useability around here. I have some major ideas in relation to the OtherFamily RPG Project that many of you may or may not have heard anything about already (things concerning a possible near future release of this aspect of the site).
On a closing note, I think it might be time to shake things up again around here in regards to the Site Operations. Another one of the tasks that I have been working on is developing the guidelines for the assorted posistions needing to be filled around here to keep things running nice and smooth. Once I have this, and some of the other aformentioned tasks, completed I will setup an application and interview process for these positions and start getting them filled.
I think that about covers it for this installment of the OtherFamily News, but stay tuned for more updates in the future (cause with us, you never really know when you might see one).

Xmas is Over, New Year on the Horizon!

So, once again the Annual OtherFamily Xmas has come and gone, and this year like all others past went off without a hitch really. A big thanks to everyone that came, helped out, etc. to ensure that this tradition continues into the future.
Along with the end of the Xmas Party, as usual, ushers us into another New Year for the OtherFamily. Over the course of this trip, Hess and I did a lot of discussing of what we will be doing for the future of this site, and I ensure that there are many great things that will be coming up.
Compounded with this, I myself now have a PC again, and will be able to more actively code for the site. This should bring about a faster turn around on the various projects we have lined up.
Also, with the New Year, we here at OtherFamily will be reaching out to you, our users, for some assistance and the chance to make your own permanent mark on the OtherFamily site. Within the next few days here we will be releasing all needed information for the OtherFamily Logo Contest! Keep your eyes peeled!

That is right everyone, the holiday season is upon us once again, and with it comes the return of the Annual OtherFamily Christmas Party!
As in previous years, the party will be held at the splendid Lake House courtesy of Hess and his kin. This year the party will be held on Saturday, December 29th - and it will be an all day event!
Expectations have started to become high for the OtherFamily Staff in relations to the Christmas Party, party goers anticipating good food, spirits, drinks, and so on. And what of the OtherFamily Christmas Poker Game? Will we see a return of the gift giving gambling extravaganza? And what of special news announcements related to the OtherFamily Site?
So, come and join us once again for another fantastic holiday with the OtherFamily!

Hey there everybody, just wanted to drop a quick line to fill everyone in on some of the more recent behind the scenes stuff here at OtherFamily.
First thing is first, both Hess and myself are being bogged down with work as of late. Even as I write this out to you all now, I find myself in Indiana for work for the second week in a row. As for Hess, he is locked into a death march on something like 4 separate projects at his job as well. What does this mean to you, the user?
Nothing.
Well, not really, it does mean that the content that we have been developing on the backend has been put on hold for the time being once again. Yes, yes, yes - it happens a lot and we know this!
Now, most of you are probably asking yourselves, or have asked yourselves, is there ever any positive news when it comes to Hess and Red Eye. Well, I am also here to tell you that there is!
My good buddy, known to all of you as The Red Fist from the board...though I do not think he has ever posted anything before...has been working on a new design for the website. I have seen it already, and submitted it to Hess for final approval, and believe me when I tell you this - YOU ARE GOING TO LIKE IT!
With that said, we will be doing some interesting things here at OtherFamily in the moderately near future, so keep your eyes peeled for another News post here soon!
In closing, I figure I will keep up with my recent theme of giving you something to chew on in your head until my next post, and here it is this time:

Hold Time, Party Time!

First of all, projects on the development end of things here have been put on hold for the time being. I will soon be traveling out to the good state of Wisconsin to get in touch with Hess regarding some things about the site. Until this has occured, no projects are being worked on.
Now, as for the other reason I will be heading to Wisconsin - it is time for the OtherFamily Reunion! That is right folks, the summer counterpart to the OtherFamily Christmas has finally come into sight. Located on the same wonderful lake as the OtherFamily Christmas, and coming up here very soon! I look forward to seeing everyone there for good times, good food, and wonderful summer relaxation!

I am very pleased to announce, be it about a day later than I should be, that we here at OtherFamily have renewed our contract on this website, and that this new contract will take us into the year 2009. It has been a true pleasure providing the content of this site to our users over the course of these past nearly 2 years, and we look foreward to continuing to provide you with the same quality - if not better - of content that we have provided in the past.

Well, folks, we on the OtherFamily development team have some changes that will be rolling out here in the near future that I wanted to give a quick heads up on. Mainly, I wanted to let you all know that there will be some drastic changes occuring to the forum board.
At this time, we are still looking into the best methods to go about these changes - but be sure to check back to the news page over the next few days to catch any updates as they come!

Well, it is pretty well known that we here at OtherFamily have been around for some time now, and I am pleased to announce that we have had our 9,000th post made on the Forum Boards.
I would just like to thank all of you for your support as we push foreward to try and provide you with the vision that Hess and I shared a few years back.

I just wanted to thank all of the people who have frequented this site since its arrival. We have come through over a year now of the OtherFamily being live and on the Web, and now some 8000 posts and gigs of pictures later, we are still running strong.
It means even more when you add the fact that the development of the site has been something of a slow project. As most of you know, Hess and I are both rather busy individuals - and it means a lot to see that the efforts are appreciated.
Please continue to bear with us, I know we have said it so many times in the past, but we have so much in store for the future!
All in all, thanks to all of you who have helped make this dream become a reality!

Hey, look at that! We actually got an actual news system in place now! I know you haven't seen the "Current News" updated in nearly a year now, since it was always easier for us to just make announcements on the forum, but now this page should be getting updated much more regularly. In addition, as you can probably see below, I've copied the announcements from the forum board that really belonged here. Stay tuned for more!

As we draw in to the end of the year, I feel it is only appropriate that we go through and do some cleaning up around the site. This is mainly being composed of taking care of any accounts that are no longer active and having them removed from the database. Any account that has not been accessed since December 2005 or before will be deleted on Saturday the 23rd if they have not yet logged in by then. Following is a list of all accounts that will be effected by this:

Recent Changes

Some of you may have noticed some various changes occuring around the website recently, most noteably the Forum Board itself. In short, the Development Team is working on making some changes to things that will improve the flow, look, feel, and maintnence of the website. More information will come as it is available.

Well, everyone, the acounts on the Forum have now been synced back up with the image galley, so now all users should be able to login to the gallery with their username and password for the forum and post pics if they so choose!

A Shift in Power

As I am sure people have noticed by now, the only people that are in posistions of "power" within the site are Hess, myself, and the Moderation Team. The reason for this is as follows:
Hess and I have been discussing how things have been going here behind the scenes, and we have decided to reestablish how we intend to get things done here on both the Admin and Webmaster side of things. Once we have pounded out some more of the details we will let you in further on what is going on, and will also be taking applications for posistions.

Abuse of Gallery

As of now, it is officially considered abuse of the Gallery to post Music Videos and MP3 songs for access to other sources such as MySpace, hi5, etc. We do not need our bandwidth consumed on these places. All items like this that are known have been removed.
Accpections to this would be any members of the staff that would like to host music and videos may do so, but these will be set to restricted access.

Image Gallery Released

Wow, it's been a little while since this page was last updated. Anyways, we now have an Image Gallery installed, which you may get to by clicking the link above. You should already have an account in the Image Gallery, with the same username and password as your Forum Board account, and it will create an album for you to upload pictures to when you first login.
Within your album, you can create any sub-albums you want, and you can upload pictures and/or movies to them. (For now, movies can only be downloaded by people who want to view them, but we will eventually have streaming video built-in so you can watch it from the Gallery.) Uploading pictures is really easy: if you click on the Add Items link in your album, you can choose from several different ways to upload. Among these are uploading single files at a time from the browser (you can even upload a .zip file containing images, and it'll extract 'em for you!), using an Upload Java Applet which will allow you to drag and drop pictures from Windows Explorer to your browser, and using the Gallery Remote - a Java application you run on your computer which works really well with the Image Gallery. Choose whichever way you prefer. There are currently no quotas on how much disk space you can use, but if it becomes an issue, we will probably enforce quotas.
When viewing pictures, you can view a slideshow (be sure to set the size that you wish to view images at, though) of pictures, or you can view individual pictures, and you can even leave comments on pictures. There's a whole bunch of other nifty little features in there as well, so play around with it a bit and see what you can do. If you notice anything wrong with it, or that you think could work better a little differently, post about it in the Bugs or Suggestions boards in the Forum!

Okay, well, I was just kind of sitting around here, and I popped off a quick set of text messages to most of the people we all chill with to let you guys all know about checking out this site - then I remembered that some of you have no idea why this site is actually being made or anything like that...so, allow me to explain a little bit for you.
Hess and I started B.S.ing with one another a few months back about how it was sort of shitty that we have such an amazing group of friends...totaling in at well over 30 people (more than most people could ever hope to ever have in their lifetime), and through the years we have somehow grown and grown, and also we have staied together through a lot of strange, hard, and interesting times. The thing is, though, that Hess and I also noticed that the group of friends has been slowly drifting apart.
Don't get me wrong on this, it's not really the drifting apart that you probably think I mean...no, I am more or less refering to the fact that as we have all been growing older, people have been moving to different towns, and it has started to make contact with one another rather difficult. Hess and I decided that we were not going to allow something like that to happen after we have been able to endure through maintaing these friendships for so long: thus this website.
You see, to Hess and I, this site can be an essential tool for us to be able to maintain communication with all the people we have gotten to know so well over these past years of our lives, and at the same time, it can also be so much more than that. I don't want to get to spoiling all the surprises for you right now, but you'll see what exactly I'm talking about here soon enough. For now, just skim around what we actually have up in this little cheap-o version of the site, which is mostly just the forum board (see the link below cause I'm too lazy to hyperlink it here)!

Well, well, well - you made it here, congratulations. It tooks sometime for anyone of us to think of getting something like this up and going, but here it is...in all of it's Version 1.0 glory. So, in honesty, there really isn't much of anything here for you guys to do yet, but what can you honestly expect...it's within the first week that we purchased the domain. There will be pleanty of features coming, some of you know about most of them, most of you know about some of them, and none of you know of all of them - so sit back, and enjoy the ride!
